Life: Movies

I frequently watch, speak of, and ponder over movies. In another life, I’m a movie critic. I like them all: horror, drama, comedy, ‘chick flick’, action, thriller, and etcetera.

I claim 38 movies to be in my top ten, and 15 to be in my top five. The truth is I excuse this paradox with, “I have a different top ten depending upon my mood.” I’m a historical fence sitter. This is painful, but with without further gilding the lily and with no more ado, I give to you, my top ten.

10. The Shawshank Redemption
9. Searching For Bobby Fisher
8. Love Actually
7. The Truman Show
6. When Harry Met Sally
5. Big Fish
4. The Lion King
3. Dead Poets Society
2. Gladiator
1. Good Will Hunting

Politics: Irony

Golden State Fence was hired to build a fence along the U.S. - Mexico border. They have been fined 5 million dollars for hiring illegal workers, and their executives face jail time.

Life: Disturbances are Relative

My disturbances are nothing. They will not starve me, nor will they foreshadow my death. Divorces cannot burn my house. Tuition bills do not frighten me. Friendships, relationships, and courtships bring about only naïve apprehensions—and will never share true disease. My disturbances are not self-sufficient. I create and perpetuate them. I am their master. For those who are perpetually affected by the unluckiness of their birthplace, I understand the relativity of my disturbances. They are nothing.

Life: Newsworthy

A school shooting took place in Tacoma Washington this morning. CNN and Fox both shared updates throughout much of the day. I wonder. What makes news, newsworthy? How many school shootings or stabbings happen in New York every year?

I only read about suburban students. Interesting.
